VANS STATION SINDANG
Stage lighting · Video playback
Sindang Station, Seoul · October 20–21, 2023
We designed the direction of light among the columns beneath Sindang Station and connected video to the LED stage. A lighting and video system for a space where DJ performances meet skateboarding.
VANS STATION SINDANG
Music meets skateboarding at Sindang Station
An unused transfer passage opened as a cultural space for two days. In the long underground space lined with columns, lighting and screens needed to support both performances and skateboarding.
Spatial layout
Repeating columns, different lighting layouts
In Zone B, lights aimed toward the stage from the upper walls and columns. In Zone C, they aimed toward the center from the floor beside the columns. We planned different lighting heights and directions within the same underground space.
01 · Zone B lighting
Lighting the stage and dance floor
Moving beams on the walls and wash lights in front of the columns establish the lighting direction. They illuminate both the DJ table and the audience floor, changing scenes through color and beam movement.

- Beams define direction
- Reflections fill the space
- Screens become the stage
Designing places for light between the columns
Moving beams sit along both walls; wash lights stand in front of columns facing the stage. Mirror balls hang between the columns.
02 · Zone C lighting
Revealing the long space's depth with light
Beams and wash lights on the floor beside the columns point toward the center. Long laser lines and mirror-ball reflections spreading across the ceiling reveal the depth of the underground space.
Low lights and long axes of light
Lights illuminate the space from near the floor; lasers point from the center toward the stage. We used layout models to review where these two directions meet.
03 · Real-time video playback
Turning wide LED screens into one stage
Wide-format content played across the LED screens surrounding the DJ booth. KNOVCOMPILE configured the real-time video playback software for operating the content on site.
From content to the LED stage
Wide video and artist graphics connect to the on-site LED screens. Content spanning the screen width becomes the stage backdrop.

Monitoring visuals on site
We operated the visuals while monitoring the LED booth's output alongside the control desk.
Performance and skateboarding on site
A scene completed by the crowd
Light and video connected columns, ceiling, stage and audience. We operated the space on site as DJ performances and skateboarding unfolded together.
